Young Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant engaged in a heated argument with Bangladesh counterpart Litton Das in the first Test. On September 19, India kicked off their Test season with a two-match Test series against Bangladesh. On Day 1 of the first Test in Chennai, Pant engaged in a heated altercation with Litton Das after getting hit on his leg. Notably, the match saw Pant making his comeback to India’s Test side for the first time since his life-threatening accident in December 2022.
In the match, Pant had to walk out to bat early after the hosts lost three quick wickets. Rohit Sharma and Co. were reduced to 34-3 inside the first hour after some brilliant bowling by Hasan Mahmud. While star batters including Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli walked back to the pavilion after getting dismissed cheaply, Rishabh Pant maintained his aggression and tried to get things steady for his side.
Rishabh Pant gets into verbal altercation with Litto n Das
In the 16th over of India’s first innings, Litton Das threw a ball which accidentally hit Rishabh Pant’s pads. It happened after Yashasvi Jaiswal played a shot off Taskin Ahmed’s delivery and ran for a single. While the ball got deflected after hitting Pant, allowing the Indian duo to complete a single, Pant got engaged in a war of words with Das and asked him why he was hitting him.
Pant told Das, “Usko dekho, mujhe kyu maar rahe ho?” The Bangladeshi replied, “Wicket saamne hai toh maarega hi (Wicket is in this direction will hit there only.”) Needless to say, the video of the argument went viral on social media within no time. Speaking of the match, India got off to a disastrous start and lost their three batting stars within one hour of the game. However, Pant and Jaiswal tried to things get stable for the Indian side with their decent knocks.
