On Saturday, May 18, Riyan Parag, the Rajasthan Royals batter, took to his official X account to share a WhatsApp conversation with the team’s support coach Siddhartha Lahiri. When the 22-year-old got asked about joining RR’s practice session later tonight, he said not to coach in favour of watching RCB play against CSK in their all-important IPL 2024 clash.
At the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be taking on Chennai Super Kings to determine the fourth and final team to reach the playoffs stage in the IPL 2024 season. Kolkata Knight Riders are already assured of the top spot in the league stage of the tournament, while Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad will also be finishing in the top four.
Just like the fans, Riyan Parag is also awaiting the start of the big match between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, which will be going down later tonight at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru from 7:30 PM onwards. So, when the support coach Siddhartha Lahiri questioned him about whether he will be practising at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati just 24 hours before Rajasthan Royals take on Kolkata Knight Riders, he said, “Nopeee RCB vs CSK today.”
Riyan Parag is in the midst of a stellar season in the IPL this year, scoring more than 500 runs at an average of 59 and a strike-rate in excess of 150 for Rajasthan Royals.
Notably, RR will be going into their upcoming IPL 2024 clash against KKR after four consecutive losses despite qualifying through to the playoffs. They need to win this clash to have the best possible chance of finishing in the top two, giving themselves two opportunities to make the final of this year’s IPL.
