On May 21 (Sunday), in the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma, the captain of Mumbai Indians, asked for a favour from Royal Challengers Bangalore to secure a spot in the IPL 2023 playoffs, after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets. He also mentioned the fact that MI did a favour to RCB to help them make the playoffs last year.

Notably, Mumbai Indians are currently in fourth place on the IPL points table. But they need Royal Challengers Bangalore to lose their last fixture against Gujarat Titans at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium to make the top four at the end of the league stage.

After the game against SRH, Rohit Sharma, speaking at the post-match presentation, remarked, “Last year we did a favour to RCB so hopefully, we get what we're looking for this year.” For the unversed, Mumbai Indians had defeated Delhi Capitals by five wickets in their final league stage game of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium, which allowed Royal Challengers Bangalore to reach the top 4.

Earlier, MI was in a must-win contest against SRH to stay in the hunt for the playoff spot in the IPL. Their captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and put the opposition in to bat first. The openers of Sunrisers Hyderabad gave a brilliant start to their side as they put up a 140-run stand inside 14 overs.

Vivrant Sharma scored 69 runs off 47 deliveries with nine fours and two sixes, while his fellow opening partner Mayank Agarwal got 83 runs off 46 deliveries with eight fours and four sixes. After both the openers got out in quick succession, Mumbai Indians made a decent comeback to restrict Sunrisers Hyderabad to 200/5 total. Akash Madhwal picked up 4 crucial wickets for the bowling side.

In their run-chase, Mumbai were clinical from start to finish with the bat. Their captain Rohit Sharma put together a solid innings of 56 runs of 37 deliveries with eight fours and one six. But the star of the show was the big Aussie all-rounder Cameron Green, who got his first-ever IPL century off 47 deliveries with eight fours and the same number of maximums to propel MI to a comfortable win against SRH.
