Team India captain, Rohit Sharma, must have retired from the shortest format of the game after taking his side to the much-awaited victory later last month in the USA and West Indies, he recently silenced everyone when asked about his retirement plans. However, Rohit Sharma was among the three senior players, including Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja to retire after India’s T20 World Cup glory.
Although Sharma is currently in the USA after having requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for an extended break, he recently made a public appearance at a promotional event. When questioned about his future plans and retirement from international cricket, the 37-year-old dropped a one-liner as he said “you will see me playing at least for a while”.
“I don’t look that far ahead. So clearly you will see me playing at least for a while,” Rohit Sharma said.
Rohit Sharma to lead India in Champions Trophy and WTC
Although, the Indian opener might have been nearing the twilight of his career, BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah, after India's T20 World Cup 2024 win, confirmed that he will continue to lead at least until the next World Test Championship final and the upcoming Champions Trophy.
“I am confident that under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, we will win the WTC Final and Champions Trophy,” Shah said in a video posted by ANI on X (formerly Twitter) while congratulating the Indian team on the T20 World Cup win. “I want to congratulate Team India for this historic win. I want to dedicate this triumph to skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, head coach Rahul Dravid and Ravindra Jadeja,” he added.
