Ahead of the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League, the Mumbai Indians franchise has been a massive point of discussion, especially after Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit Sharma as team captain for the upcoming season. Adding another chapter to this saga, Sharma wasn't spotted in MI's video about the team bonding session in Alibaug.
After the pre-season camp in Mumbai, MI p layers, staff and entire management took a break from training and headed to Alibaug before their opening game against Gujarat Titans on March 24. The entire Mumbai Indians team reached Alibaug on Tuesday and is expected to return to Mumbai in two days.
No Rohit Sharma in MI team-bonding trip to Alibaug
In a viral video shared by MI on social media, players and coaches can be seen boarding the ferry and enjoying themselves. But Rohit Sharma wasn't spotted in the clip making the rounds of the internet. The Indian captain joined the Mumbai Indians on March 18 and was seen practising in the Wankhede Stadium on March 19.
I don’t focus on what I can’t control: Pandya on negative fan reaction
The day Rohit Sharma joined MI's IPL 2024, new captain Hardik Pandya and head coach Mark Boucher were part of a press conference about the upcoming season. In this media event, Pandya was asked about the negative fan reaction to him being MI captain. Pandya responded, “I don’t focus on what I can’t control. At the same time, I am very grateful to fans. They have every right to say what they say. I respect their opinion. At the same time, we will focus on doing well."
The Indian all-rounder also spoke about how there won't be any differences between him and Rohit. “There won’t be any confusion. He [Rohit] is still the India captain. What this team has achieved was achieved under his belt. I am just carrying it forward. I have played all my cricket with MI with Rohit as captain, so I am sure he will always be around to help me out,” Pandya added.
