Team India captain Rohit Sharma, a day after quashing retirement rumours after guiding India to historic ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title triumph, dropped big statement on his participation in 2027 ODI World Cup. Moments after India’s four-wicket win over New Zealand to lift the Champions Trophy 2025 title, the 37-year-old stated that he is “not going to retire from this format."
However, soon after he quashed the retirement rumours while addressing the post-match press conference, Rohit also cast doubt of participating in the 2027 edition of the Cricket World Cup, which will be played in the 50-over format in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Although, he refused to confirm on his participation for the mega event, he wishes to continue playing the format.
It wouldn’t be fair for me to think too far ahead: Rohit Sharma on 2027 Cricket World Cup
It is to be seen that Rohit Sharma has time and again mentioned of his desire to play the 50-over World Cup, but added that it is too early to make a comment on his participation. "Right now, I am taking things as they come. It wouldn’t be fair for me to think too far ahead. At this moment, my focus is on playing well and maintaining the right mindset. I don’t want to draw any lines and say whether I will or won’t play in the 2027 World Cup. There’s no point in making such statements right now,” Rohit Sharma said.
He further added that he is enjoying his cricket so far and would not think so far beyond. "Realistically, I have always taken my career one step at a time. I don’t like thinking too far into the future, and I haven’t done so in the past either. For now, I am enjoying my cricket and the time I spend with this team. I hope my teammates enjoy my presence as well. That’s all that matters at this point,” the 37-year-old said while speaking on JioHotstar.
Speaking of Rohit Sharma, the 37-year-old played a gritty knock of 76 runs off 83 deliveries to guide India to victory. Although, during the campaign, he did etch some unwanted records, but his performance in the summit clash proved to be pivotal in India’s title triumph. With a win, he has now the most ICC titles in India, along with Virat Kohli.
