After the United Kingdom requested the Romanian authorities to extradite social media influencer and former kickboxer Andrew Tate, a Romanian court has approved the handover. However, the court said on Tuesday that it postponed the extradition until the Romanian trial proceedings finished.

The Romanian police said in a statement that the UK authorities issued the arrest warrant over sexual offences against Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate. Apart from that, the charges also included exploiting people in Great Britain. The Tate brothers were presented to the prosecutor of the Bucharest Court of Appeal, who ordered their detention for 24 hours.

The Romanian court also ruled that the Tate brothers should be released from police custody immediately after being detained for 24 hours pending a ruling on the British arrest warrant. According to Reuters, the Bucharest Court of Appeals said in a statement that it "rules to execute the arrest warrant and ... to postpone handing over the requested person until the final verdict in the criminal case argued at the Bucharest court".

Eugen Vidineac, legal counsel for the Tate brothers, stated, "We appreciate the Bucharest Court of Appeal's decision to postpone the extradition of Andrew and Tristan Tate. This ruling provides an opportunity for the brothers to participate fully in their defence and for the legal process to proceed in a transparent manner."
