Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has left out goalkeeper Andre Onana from the squad for the Premier League match against Newcastle United on Sunday, April 13, which will be played at the St. James’ Park. The big decision from Manchester United has come in the aftermath of a poor outing for the Cameroon international in the UEFA Europa League (UEL) quarter-finals first leg tie against Lyon in France earlier this week.

During their visit to Parc Olympique Lyonnais in the mid-week, Manchester United had to settle for a 2-2 draw after two costly mistakes from Andre Onana in goal, allowing the hosts to walk away with the draw on the night. Just a day before the match, Nemanja Matic, the former Manchester United player, who is currently playing for Lyon, called Andre Onana “one of the worst goalkeepers” in the club’s history.

As per the report from The Guardian correspondent Jamie Jackson, Andre Onana hasn’t travelled with the Manchester United matchday squad to Tyneside. With that, there is a real possibility for Altay Bayindir making his Premier League debut for Manchester United, which could be his sixth appearance for the club this season, with the first five coming in cup matches.

Andre Onana still in contention to play against Lyon in UEL next week

Notably, since arriving at Old Trafford, Andre Onana has made eight major errors leading to goals across all competitions, most for any goalkeeper in the Premier League. Despite his tough outing against Lyon in the last match, Andre Onana received support from his manager Ruben Amorim, who stated that he has made more mistakes than anyone in the team this season.

It is also understood that Andre Onana will still be in contention to play against Lyon in the second leg of the UEL quarter-finals clash for Manchester United.
