Steve Smith, the captain of Australia, brought up back-to-back hundreds during the ongoing two-match Test series against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium. In the first innings of the second Test in Galle, the right-handed batter got past his fourth hundred in five matches in 191 balls, to put Australia in command in the contest, following which the fans on the social media platform X were in collective appreciation of him.
Notably, after losing the toss, Australia bowled out Sri Lanka for 257 in 97.4 overs in the early stages on day two, and but then, they lost a couple of quick wickets of makeshift opener Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne. Upon his arrival at the crease, Steve Smith shared a 54-run stand for the third wicket with Usman Khawaja before he and wicket-keeper batter Alex Carey took the game away from the hosts Sri Lanka.
Steve Smith got past the three-figure score for the 36th time in his illustrious Test career, which was also the 48th time in all formats of cricket in Australian colours. While Smith played a measured innings, Carey took the attack to the Sri Lankan spinner as he got closer to a hundred, and as of this writing, they have shared an unbeaten stand of 173 runs for the fourth wicket, already securing a first innings lead for Australia.
