Preview

The inaugural edition of the South African T20 league, SA20, is up and running. While the league kicked off with a match between Paarl Royals and MI Cape Town, Sunrisers Eastern Cape will take on MI Cape Town in the 9th match of the season. While Sunrisers will be searching for their first win of the season, MI Cape Town will look to retain their top position in the points table with another win.

Pitch Report

There have not been too many T20 games played at St George’s Park. But, in the limited games, batting first has been a better choice. In the three T20s, the team batting first has won two. The pitch gets slower as the game progresses and hence the trouble for the team batting second.

Team Analysis

Sunrisers Eastern Cape

Aiden Markram-led Sunrisers Eastern Cape have not got the best start of the season as they have lost both games played so far. Both their defeats have come against Pretoria Capitals. On both occasions, the Sunrisers have lost the game while chasing. In the last game, they conceded 216 while bowling first and then could only manage 179/7 in their 20 overs. Captain Markram (46 off 29) led the run charts for Eastern Cape while Marco Jansen (36 off 20) and Brydon Carse (26 off 13) kept them alive.

MI Cape Town

MI Cape Town had a winning start to SA20 2023 as they defeated Paarl Royals in their opening fixture. However, Durban Super Giants humbled them in the second game, beating MI by five wickets. But the Rashid Khan-led team bounced back immediately and registered a seven-wicket win over Joburg Super Kings to bring up their second win of the season. While Dewlad Brevis was the star for MI Cape Town in the first win, the bowlers set up the game for the second win. George Linde, Kagiso Rabada, Rashid Khan, and Odean Smith scalped two wickets each to restrict JSK to 105/9. Brevis (42), meanwhile, led the charge in the chase.

If MI Cape Town bat: Score- 150-160; MI Cape Town Win

Conclusion

MI Cape Town seem to have a clear edge over Sunrisers Eastern Cape as their players are in form. MI have a better team on paper as well. So, they will be the favourites to win the game on Monday.
