The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Team India is hosting South Africa Women in a multi-format series at home. While the Women in Blue have clinched the three-match ODI series and the one-off Test, the tour has now moved to the T20I leg with the visitors taking a 1-0 led after winning the opening T20I at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, July 5. On the back of Tanzim Brits and Marizanne Kapp, the Protea Women registered 12-run win over the hosts, restricting them to 177 in their allotted 20 overs.
During the match, which saw the hosts won the toss and elect to field first, the Laura Wolvaardt-led side posted 189 runs on the board. During the 16th over of the South Africa inning, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh failed to collect a regulation catch, which would have dismissed Tanzim Brits. In this process, the ball did hit Ghosh’s gloves, but got deflected on her face.
Although, the physio rushed in to check on her with Richa quickly making her way out of the field and Uma Cherty replacing her behind the wickets. However, later the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Women took to X to share an update and confirm of Ghosh suffering concussion.
Sajeevan Sajana to replace Ghosh for T20I series vs SA Women
The BCCI Women confirmed that Ghosh is suffering from neck pain and dizziness due to the on-field injury and was sent for scans. Meanwhile, they have named Sajeevan Sajana as her replacement for the T20I series.
“Sajeevan Sajana has been named the concussion substitute for Richa Ghosh, who is suffering from neck pain and dizziness due to an on-field injury. She has been sent for further scans & the BCCI Medical team is monitoring her progress,” the BCCI Women post on X read.
It is to be noted that the India Women will next lock horns with South Africa Women at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, July 7, with the final T20I set to be played at the same venue on Tuesday, July 9.
