In a shocking development, NBA franchise San Antonio Spurs have decided to part ways with the No.12 pick in the NBA 2021 draft, Joshua Primo. However, the 19-year-old guard has stated that he wanted time to 'deal with previous trauma' and will 'focus on mental health'.

Joshua Primo was the number 12 pick in the NBA 2021 draft and the Spurs have exercised  third-year team option on guard Josh Primo for the 2023-24 season on October 10, which makes his waiving more shocking.

In a statement released by the team, San Antonio  Spurs Sports & Entertainment CEO RC Buford said, "It is our hope that, in the long run, this decision will serve the best interest of both the organization and Joshua."

Joshua Primo, who played college basketball for Alabama Crimson Tide, released a statement on social media following his sacking. He wrote, "I know you all are surprised by today's announcement. I've been seeking help to deal with previous trauma I suffered and will now take this time to focus on my mental health treatment more fully. I hope to be able to discuss these issues in the future so I can help others who have suffered in a similar way. I appreciate privacy at this time."

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich denied any comment on the issue and referred to the team statement that read, "The Spurs organization, including front office executive, coaching staff, and players will have no additional comments to share at this time."

Joshua Primo has played 57 games in his NBA career and averaged 5.9 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists. In the 2022-23 season, Primo averaged 7.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists.
