On Monday, June 10, Sandeep Lamichhane took to his official X account to announce his arrival in the West Indies to join the Nepal squad before their final two Group D matches in the T20 World Cup 2024. The 23-year-old, who was picked in the Nepalese squad for the ongoing ICC tournament, couldn’t take part in the two matches in the USA leg after the authorities denied him a visa despite his acquittal in a rape case.
Notably, Sandeep Lamichhane, who was a poster boy of Nepalese cricket, got convicted for allegedly raping a 18-year-old woman in a hotel in Kathmandu in 2022. He was sentenced to eight years in prison by the district court, but upon appeal, the high court overturned their decision, acquitting him of the rape charges.
