Indian tennis star Sania Mirza took ‘khula’ from her husband, Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik, according to Mirza’s father. Amid the ongoing divorce speculations, the Pakistan cricket star dropped a bomb on fans from both sides of the border by announcing his third marriage with Pakistan actress Sana Javed. The cricketer shared pictures of the wedding ceremony. Sana was linked to Malik on more than one occasion, and the rumours started when Shoaib wished Sana on her birthday last year.
While fans had speculations about an official divorce between ‘once a power couple’, Mirza’s father clearly said that she took a ‘Khula’ from Malik. Imran Mirza openly confirmed their separation and said that it happened through the process of ‘Khula’. It is to be noted that Malik married Mirza after divorcing Ayesha Siddiqui in 2010. They got married in a traditional Muslim ceremony, and later had a Walima ceremony in Sialkot, Pakistan. They have been living separately for some time now and continue to co-parent their son Izhaan, born in 2018.
Sania Mirza’s father confirms separation through ‘Khula’
While rumours about their divorce had been in the air for the past few months, neither the cricketer nor the tennis star confirmed anything. However, after Malik’s wedding pictures with Sana Javed surfaced, Mirza’s father, Imran confirmed the same. As per The Republic, he said that it was a Khula. For the unversed, Khula is a right granted to Muslim women to unilaterally divorce their husbands under Sharia law.
Sana Javed is a Pakistani actress who appears in Urdu TV shows. She made her debut in 2012 with Shehr-e-Zaat and went on to appear in several serials.
