Mathias Boe, the coach of the Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, has announced on his official Instagram account that his coaching days are over for now. The announcement from the Danish badminton legend came after Satwik-Chirag bowed out of the Paris Olympics 2024 men’s doubles event after losing in the quarter-final stage.

Notably, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost to the Malaysian pairing of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in three games at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena. After becoming the first men’s doubles pairing to reach the quarter-final stage for India at the Olympics, they went down with a scoreline of 21-13, 14-21, 16-21.

During their time with Mathias Boe as coach, Satwik-Chirag reached the number one world ranking in the men’s doubles. They also played a key role for India in winning the Thomas Cup in 2022.

In his post on the official Instagram account, Mathias Boe said, “For me, my coaching days ends here, I’m not going to continue in India or anywhere else, for now at least. I have spend too much time in a badminton hall and it’s also pretty stressful to be a coach, I’m a tired old man.”

The 44-year-old also thanked various officials and organisations for supporting him while coaching Satwik-Chirag. He remarked, “I want to thank Sports Authority of India, Garg Sir and Rakesh Sir, Badminton Association of India, GoSports Foundation for the support over the years. Also a huge shout out to all my colleagues in Indian Badminton. Thank you for a lot of good memories and I wish you all the best. Jai Hind”.
