Another chapter begins in this summer’s contract drama between French giants Paris Saint-Germain and K ylian Mbappe . Saudi Arabia is now involved, according to reports stating that they could look to try and lure the French international. PSG is looking to sell the player this summer at any cost, going as far as excluding the 24-year-old from their training camp entirely.
PSG want a high transfer fee for Kylian Mbappe this summer, as the star forward’s contract runs out next year. This would allow one of the world’s best players to leave the Parisian club for free. Something that PSG and especially President Nasser Al-Khelaifi want desperately to avoid.
Having narrowly secured his signature last year after an extended period where it looked like Mbappe was heading to Real Madrid, the Frenchman is seemingly looking for greener pastures as he is unhappy with PSG’s project and club administration. Mbappe was made the highest-paid player in the world at the time, as well as given power to have sway over the PSG project and future transfers.
Reporting this development, Ben Jacobs stated, “PSG are acting in keeping with a new philosophy at the club. Nasser Al-Khelaifi is not prepared to stand for player power. It's believed PSG feel they must take this course of action to protect the club. Some are convinced Mbappe is trying to sabotage the club.”
PSG to demand more than EUR 120 million for Mbappe
PSG have already missed out on being able to re-sign Lionel Messi and have lost him on a free to Inter Miami. They are desperate not to allow Mbappe, who they signed for EUR 180 million from Monaco in 2017, to leave for Real Madrid for free. The reason for this is two-fold.
First, it would reflect poorly on the PSG administration if two of the world’s best players left the club for free without winning any major silverware in Europe. PSG’s ambition of lifting the Champions League seems to be a more and more distant prospect, and they will only be less appealing to players if they lose Mbappe. Secondly, PSG will be required to pay Mbappe a massive loyalty bonus of over 100 million euros if he stays one more year.
