The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) final, which is to be played from June 7 to June 11 at The Oval in London. Speaking of the squad, Rohit Sharma will be leading the team for the upcoming major cricketing event. After missing in action for more than a year, India batter, Ajinkya Rahane has made his comeback in the India lineup, after his blazing performance in the ongoing IPL 2023, as well as the recently concluded Ranji Trophy.
Speaking of the other players, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav, who had received their first call up for the Australian series have been dropped from the team. Speaking on Suryakumar’s exclusion from the team, former cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra has expressed his views and said, “Happy for Rahane. But how does the SKY inclusion-exclusion make sense?? Select kyon kiya…kar liya toh ek match ke baad drop kyon kiya?”
Notably, Suryakumar Yadav who hasn’t been performing well in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League hasn’t been able to mark his spot in the India squad for the World Test Championship final. He had made his Test debut in Nagpur’s first match of the Australian series but was later replaced by Shreyas Iyer in the second Test.
Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane was dropped from the Test squad after the South Africa tour in January 2022. However, the Indian veteran has performed exceptionally well in the Ranji Trophy 2022-2023, scoring 634 runs at an average of 57.63 for Mumbai.
