Sergio Ramos, the Spanish footballing legend, is reportedly looking to secure an epic return to the reigning La Liga champions Real Madrid in the upcoming January transfer window after spending more than 16 years in the nation’s capital. The 38-year-old, currently a free agent after leaving Sevilla in the summer, is waiting for Real Madrid to contact him for a potential move back to the club since they are on a lookout for defenders due to their ongoing injury crisis.

As per the Spanish news outlet AS, while Sergio Ramos is awaiting Real Madrid’s offer to sign him in the January transfer window, the chances of him joining the club again is unlikely. The Los Blancos have a big injury list as far as their defensive side of play is concerned, with the likes of Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao expected to miss out on the remainder of the season, while David Alaba’s return to the team might be delayed after missing out on action for the entirety of 2024.

Sergio Ramos rejected switch to Saudi Pro League after becoming free agent

In the recent months as a free agent, Sergio Ramos looked forward to getting another chance at playing in the UEFA Champions League, but it hasn’t quite materialised yet. He also looked at potentially playing in Brazil and Mexico in the ongoing season, but failed to secure a move to any of the clubs there, while at the same time, the Spaniard rejected a switch to the Saudi Pro League.

Moreover, during his illustrious career at Real Madrid, which began in 2005, Sergio Ramos made 671 appearances in all competitions, winning a total of 22 trophies during his 16-year tenure. Apart from securing La Liga five times, the centre-back also claimed the heralded UEFA Champions League on four occasions with the club, while winning the other four trophies including FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Copa del Rey, and Supercopa de Espana on multiple occasions.

Before his return to the boyhood club Sevilla in the summer of 2023, Sergio Ramos was a part of Paris Saint-Germain for a couple of years as well.
