Inter Milan’s forward Lautaro Martinez has the best minutes per goal ratio in all of Europe, ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe as well as Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, who had a record-breaking 2022-23 season when he won the treble. The Argentine striker is followed by his Serie A rival Victor Osimhen while Harry Kane is also included in the top five players across Europe.
Martinez has been in red-hot form this calendar year, scoring goals at a rapid rate of 89.81 minutes per goal. He has scored 14 goals so far for Inter in Serie A, and there are more than four more months to go in the year. He had a significant role to play in Inter reaching their sixth UCL final, which they unfortunately lost. He scored two match-winning UCL goals this year, both in the crucial knockouts. The first one came against Benfica’s 3-3 draw, which was the second leg of the quarter-final. The second goal came in the second leg of the semi-final against arch-rivals AC Milan. It should be noted that it was the only goal scored in the match, in the 74th minute.
Martinez has crossed even Mbappe and Haaland, both of whom were the leading goal scorers in the Ligue 1 and Premier League, respectively. Haaland has maintained a rate of 101.47 minutes per goal in 2023, whereas Mbappe has done better than him, with a rate of 95.59 minutes per goal.
Ranked in the second position, just below Martinez, is Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, with a rate of 92.58 minutes per goal. He too had a great contribution to his club, as they won the title in the 2022-23 season. Out of his total of 19 goals this year, Osimhen has scored only one by penalty.
With more than four months to go, it will be intriguing to see if the positions in the ranking change. With classy players like Haaland and Mbappe, it won't take long for them to change the standings.
