While he has been one of the victims of the most bizarre dismissal in the history of the game, the frustration and anger continues as his brother, Trevin Mathews, lashed out as the Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan and also gave him a stern warning. “Shakib is not welcome in Sri Lanka. If he comes here to play any international match or LPL, stones will be thrown at him or he will have to face the annoyance of the fans,” Trevin Mathews told Deccan Chronicle.
Further calling it a disappointing act, Trevin questioned the sportsman spirit and the humanity of the game of the cricket. “We are very disappointed. The Bangladeshi captain has no sportsman spirit and did not show humanity in the gentleman’s game,” he added.
It is to be noted that Mathews became the first player to be timed out in the international cricket history. The controversial incident took place in the 25th over of the Sri Lanka inning. Elaborating more, Mathews walked out after Sadeera Samarawickrama’s dismissal and when he was about to face the ball, his helmet’s strap broke with Mathews calling in for a new helmet. In the meantime, Shakib Al Hasan appealed for a time out amid refuse to withdraw after attempts by the veteran batter.
However, the umpires called for the batter to be timed out after he failed to play the first ball within two minutes as per the ICC rulings.
