West Indies breached the fortress Gabba on Sunday, January 28 as they beat Australia in the second Test by a margin of just eight runs. After winning the toss, the Kraigg Brathwaite-led side opted to bat first and posted 311 runs on the board. In return, the Australians declared their innings at 289/9 and Windies got them under 200, eventually restricting the hosts in the chase and finishing on the other side of the line.

With Shemar Joseph finishing with seven wickets in hand after earlier sustaining an injury from Mitchell Starc’s toe-crushing yorker, stole the show for the visitors. What followed was ecstatic celebrations in the Windies camp as the players sprinted in charge, celebrating the historic Gabba win.

Speaking after the win, the man of the moment Shamar Joseph hailed the team for their support. “Shout out for my teammates for their support. I wasn’t even going to come to the ground today. But the doctor did something to my toe. I don’t know what he did. But it worked. I just stuck to the basics. Stuck to the top of off. I feel like we win the entire series by winning this Test. I cried for my five-wicket haul but I’m so happy now.”

After this historic win, the West Indies registered their first Test win on Australian soil after nearly 27 years. Moreover, the Pat Cummins-led Australia retain the trophy after drawing the series 1-1 against West Indies.
