On Monday, August 26, just days after announcing retirement from international and domestic cricket, former India opener, Shikhar Dhawan confirmed his participation in the Legends League Cricket. The former India veteran followed footsteps of quite a few of his teammates, to confirm participation in the LLC, a T20 tournament which is played by senior retired professionals.
Although, the 38-year-old called it quits from international and domestic cricket, but had hinted on continuing playing in franchise league around the world. Speaking to the media, Dhawan said as quoted by PTI, "My body is still conditioned for the demands of the game, and while I'm at ease with my decision, cricket is an inseparable part of who I am, it will never go out of me.”

Although he said that he is at ease with the decision to retire from international cricket, he showed eagerness to join his former teammates in the LLC. "I am eager to regroup with my cricketing friends and continue to entertain my fans as we create new memories together," he added.
Co-founder of LLC, Raman Raheja welcomed Dhawan to the league, stating, “We are thrilled to have Shikhar Dhawan join us. His experience and flair will undoubtedly enhance the competition and entertain fans. We look forward to seeing him in action alongside other cricket legends. This will further enhance our position as the second innings for the legendary cricketers”.
It is to be noted that LLC was founded in 2021 and stars several great cricketers, including Chris Gayle, Gautam Gambhir, Shane Watson. The 2024 edition of the T20 tournament is scheduled to be held from September 11th till October 5th in India and Qatar.
The former India opener, Shikhar Dhawan announced retirement from international and domestic cricket in a video post on social media on Saturday, August 24. The southpaw, who was nicknamed ‘Mr ICC’ after his stellar performances in ICC ODI tournaments, represented India in 167 ODIs and scored 6793 runs at an average of 44.11 and a strike rate of 91.53. He also played 68 T20Is, where he amassed 1759 runs at an average of 27.92 and a strike rate of 126.36.
