On Saturday, October 5, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sent out a press release on their website to announce that all-rounder Shivam Dube has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh due to a back injury. The Indian selection committee also announced Tilak Varma as the replacement of Shivam Dube, and the left-handed batter will be joining the Indian squad in Gwalior on the morning of the first T20I match tomorrow.
Notably, Shivam Dube, who has established his place in the Indian T20I squad with some vital innings in the T20 World Cup 2024, will not be able to build momentum on his recent performances for the national team against Bangladesh in the next week or so. The experience of Shivam Dube would have been important for India in a squad filled with a lot of youngsters for the three-match T20I series against the near neighbours, and he will be replaced by a 21-year-old as well.
Tilak Varma is named as the replacement for injured Shivam Dube
In their press release, the BCCI confirmed the back injury of Shivam Dube, but they didn’t give how it happened to him. They wrote, “All-rounder Shivam Dube is ruled out of the three-match T20I series owing to a back injury. The Senior Selection Committee has named Tilak Varma as Shivam’s replacement. Tilak will link up with the squad in Gwalior on Sunday morning.”
Moreover, the first T20I of the three-match series between India and Bangladesh will be played at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior. The second and third T20Is of the series will be taking place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi and Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad respectively.
