Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) spinner Shreyanka Patil has reportedly been ruled out of the third edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) after failing to recover from an injury she picked up during the game against Pakistan in the Women’s Asia Cup. As per sources, all-rounder Sneh Rana, who went unsold last year after getting released from Gujarat Giants (GG), has joined the RCB camp a few days back.
In RCB’s maiden title win, Shreyanka played a vital role with her bowling in the final against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The spinner picked up four batters and guided her side to the scintillating victory. Shreyanka was part of videos posted by RCB on social media sites but couldn’t make it to the team’s playing XI in the opening match against the Giants played at the Vadodara Cricket Stadium on February 14. Her absence from the squad became the talk of the town. Shreyanka also posted a photo on Instagram which indicated the off-spinner isn’t completely fit yet.
Taking to Instagram, she wrote, “Heartbroken, but I will fly again.”
RCB starts their title defense with massive victory
Contesting their first game of the WPL 2025 against Gujarat Giants (GG) in Vadodara, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) showcased mettle with the heroics of Ellyse Perry, Richa Ghosh, and Renuka Singh. Bowling first after winning the toss, the home team GG flew high and posted 201 runs in their 20 overs. Captain Ashleigh Gardner led from the front and hit an unbeaten 79 off 37. Renuka Singh bowled an economical spell, splurging only 25 runs in fours. During her spell, she also got rid of Laura Wolvardt and Deandra Dottin.
Chasing the huge target, the defending champions lost their openers Smriti Mandhana and Danni Wyatt-Hodge early but Ellyse Perry stood tall and took Gujarat’s bowling unit to the cleaners. Her 57-run innings off 34 balls emboldened Richa Ghosh, who struck an unbeaten 64 off just 27. Ghosh was assisted by Kanika Ahuja, who scored an uneaten 30 off just 13. Both batters helped the Challengers chase down the score in 18.3 overs. In Bengaluru’s five-wicket win, Ghosh got the player of the match award.
