A thrilling contest prevailed in the 31st match of the 2025 IPL between the Punjab Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium on 15th April. In a historic moment, the PBKS defended the lowest ever total in IPL history by bowling out KKR for just 95. Combined brilliance from Yuzvendra Chahal and Marco Jansen enabled Punjab to script such an incredible comeback.
In the first innings, Punjab were dealt with a big blow in front of the home crowd as they were bowled out for 111 in 15.3 overs. While the opening pair of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh was able to put together a small handful of runs with knocks of 22(12) and 30(15) respectively, the rest of the batting unit just seemed to collapse to the bowling brilliance to KKR. The pacers and spinners both worked their magic as Harshit Rana picked up 3 wickets, while Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine got 2 each to dismantle the PBKS batting unit.

The second innings was expected to be a cakewalk for KKR, who were chasing a rather small target of 112 but reality was completely different. The Punjab team came out like a man possessed and started attacking the KKR batters from the first delivery itself and it paid off as they bowled out half of KKR’s lineup in the first 11 overs for just 74 runs. While Andre Russell seemed to carry KKR over to the finishing line with two sixes in one over in the dying moments, bowling brilliance from PBKS ensured a historic win as they defeated KKR by 16 runs, defending a low total of 111.
