After former India cricketer, Rahul Dravid ended his tenure as Head Coach with the T20 World Cup triumph in the USA and West Indies, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed former India cricketer and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor, Gautam Gambhir as his successor. However, this change is set to bring several new developments in the Indian team, one of them speculated to be return of KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer .
Gambhir, who officially will take charge with the India tour of Sri Lanka, is reportedly aiming to bring in IPL 2024 winning captain, Shreyas Iyer, after the BCCI sacked him of a central contract earlier this year. Although, there hasn’t been any confirmation on the same, this comes after the batter was seen training hard and sweating it out.
According to a report citing Telegraph India, Iyer is expected to return for India in the upcoming bilateral series against Sri Lanka. Gambhir, in his latest meeting with the selectors, vouched for certain players, who he wants to don the national jersey. Coming back to the video which has been doing rounds on social media, Iyer can be seen training rigourously in a stadium on a sprinting track with rain pouring down.

Lately, Iyer has faced the wrath from the BCCI selection committee for violating disciplinary measures. While he was found taking domestic cricket for granted, he did return in the Test cricket against England, but was dropped later due to discrepancies in his fitness report and officially sacked of BCCI's Players Central Contract list.
