In a big development it is being reported that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer might not continue with the franchise. A report quoting Cricbuzz informed that the Mumbai batter has proven to be a tough negotiator in discussions with the team’s management, forcing the defending champions to release him ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.
These developments come after weeks of suspense. With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) putting forth October 31 as the deadline for the franchises to submit the retention list, the three-time champions had finally reached out to Shreyas Iyer for clear conversations.
Shreyas Iyer to leave KKR after salary negotiations fall through: Reports
According to reports citing Cricbuzz, Shreyas Iyer has been negotiating with the franchise for a fatter paycheck, a demand which KKR haven’t agreed to. Moreover, it reveals that the franchises have a close watch on player’s fitness issues, recent performances and the current international status before taking a final call and these points aren’t proven great for the Mumbai batter off late.
Speaking of Iyer, he was bought by KKR in IPL 2022 auction for a salary of INR 12.25 Crore. Meanwhile, he scored 401 runs across 14 games in that season, he went on to miss the 2023 edition due to a back injury that required a surgery. Furthermore, he returned for the previous edition, leading his team to the title triumph.
He currently is with a central contract from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), falling out of favour after missing Ranji Trophy matches in the previous edition. However, a clarity on his retention will come in front when the franchises have to submit the list by Thursday, October 31.
