Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has hailed Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan for their scintillating batting performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. GT, who are at the top of the points table with four wins and a loss in the T20 competition, are squaring off against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Ekana Cricket Stadium in the ongoing contest. Batting first, GT got an exceptional start from their openers Gill and Sudharsan as both stitched a 120-run stand for the first wicket in just 12.1 overs. In the ongoing contest in Lucknow, skipper Gill played a 60-run knock off just 38 while Sudharsan also chipped in with 56 off 37. Sudharsan has been in brilliant touch this season as he has struck his fourth fifty in the ongoing T20 extravaganza.
Noting the sensational partnership of both GT players, former Aussie skipper Clarke remarked that having both together in one side is like getting the services of football legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the same team. “Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan being in the same team is like Ronaldo and Messi being in the same team,” said Clarke while speaking on the sidelines of the IPL.
LSG bowlers bounce back after early hammering
After pounding from the openers, Gill and Sudharsan in the early phase of the match, Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi scripted LSG’s comeback as both bagged three wickets together within 12 balls. In the last eight overs of the innings, the hosts’ bowlers gave away only 60 runs and also claimed six wickets to restrict the visitors to 180/6 in 20 overs.
Shardul Thakur and Ravi Bishnoi clinched two wickets apiece while Avesh Khan and Digvesh Rathi also got one wicket respectively. Avesh delivered the much-needed breakthrough to his team in the form of Gill, who notched up his 22nd IPL fifty.
