The third and final match of the three-match ODI series between India and Zimbabwe is underway at the Harare Sports Club. India’s captain KL Rahul once again won the toss and decided to bat first. India got off to a fine start as Rahul and Dhawan stitched a fine half-century opening stand. However, the captain shortly departed on 30 (46).
With this wicket, Shubman Gill came out to bat and the right-handed batter carried on right from where he left in the second ODI. Gill played some beautiful shots in his innings and reached another half-century. The right-handed batter was looking in fine touch and he capitalized on a good start to enter the 90s. But as Gill was nearing his maiden ODI century, a visible pressure was being felt by him.
As a result of which he missed the line of a ball from Brad Evans and it hit him on his front pad. Zimbabwe appealed for an LBW but the umpire did not look convinced. Meanwhile, there was another appeal for a run-out. While Gill got hit on his pad and the ball rolled in front of him, Ishan Kishan, who was at the non-striker's end sensed a run and almost reached the opposite crease. But the bowler was smart enough to pick the ball and nail a direct hit to catch Kishan short of his crease.
Although Zimbabwe went for a DRS to check on Shubman Gill’s LBW appeal, the result came in the batter’s favor as a clear spike was seen when the ball passed the bat, and Gill was adjudged not out. However, Kishan had to walk off the field as he was run out.

Gill gets to his maiden ODI ton
After surviving this close call, Shubman Gill calmed his nerves and slowly reached his maiden ODI century. The 22-year-old effortlessly punched a good length delivery from Victor Nyuachi to sweeper cover to get to the three-figures-mark. Gill then took off his helmet and accepted the appreciation from his teammates as well as the crowd.
