Indian batter Shubman Gill has been in the limelight seeing his poor run of form with the bat. The 24-year-old who looked average in the two-match Test series against South Africa, failed to make an impact with the bat in the ongoing Test series against England.

While the Indian batter scored only 23 runs across the two innings in the first Test, he scored 34 runs on the opening day of the second Test before heading back to the pavilion. Seeing his dismissals, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar opined that he needs to work on his defense. “Shubman Gill, how does he react to his failures? He needs to do something about his defence if he wants to be the prolific run-getter in the team at the Test level, both against swing and spin,” he said.

“That’ a cause for worry and that’s something that won’t be solved easily. These are uncontrollable for the team management, and the selectors,” Manjrekar further added. On Friday, February 2, Shubman Gill became the victim of James Anderson for the fifth time in Test cricket. The veteran English bowler has claimed the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar nine time, whereas Virat has been the victim of Anderson seven times.
Earlier, even Anil Kumble shared his opinions on Shubman Gill. The former India captain aid that Gill has been given a “cushion” that veteran Cheteshwar Pujara never got. “He (Gill) has been given the cusshion perhaps even a Cheteshwar Pujara didn’t get, although he (Pujara) has played over a 100 Tests,” Kumble aid on JioCinema ahead of second Test.
It is to be noted that Gill has not scored a half-century in his last 11 Test inning. He scored a 128 in India’s first innings against visiting Australian side in Ahmedabad in March 2023 and after that, his highest score has been just 36.
