With the Indian Premier League (IPL) retention deadline nearing, several reports have claimed that the IPL 2022 title winners, Gujarat Titans (GT) are set to retain their skipper Shubman Gill. However, there were reports of the Indian opener being asked to enter the IPL 2025 mega auction, which is set to take place next month, but recent developments have confirmed that he is likely to continue with them.

According to latest developments doing rounds on social media, Shubman Gill has remained “loyal” towards the franchise and eyes to build a strong team going into the IPL 2025. Moreover, several reports have also claimed that he is set to continue at the helm in the upcoming edition.

Shubman Gill to lead GT in IPL 2025: Reports

Gill, who took over as the captain of Gujarat Titans after Hardik Pandya’s departure ahead of IPL 2024, is set to continue as their skipper in the next edition. With retentions talk intensifying, a source close to the Gujarat-based franchise confirmed that they are also looking to retain Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan.

"Shubman Gill to lead the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025, and Rashid Khan will play under him. Many big teams were eyeing him and were looking to have him in auction. Gill wants to stay loyal to GT and build a strong team," GT sources told ANI.

Speaking of Gill’s tenure as the captain in IPL 2024, the franchise finished eighth with five wins and seven loses from 14 league matches. Although Gill garnered 426 runs from 12 matches at an average of 38.73 and a strike rate of 147.40, finishing second behind Sai Sudarshan as the team’s second highest run-getter.
