In a big update, Zimbabwe Cricket has announced Sikandar Raza as the new skipper of the side in the shortest format of the game. The Pakistan-born Zimbabwe international cricketer replaces Craig Ervine, who led the side in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
The Zimbabwe cricket board on Saturday, November 4 held a meeting in Victoria Falls and in the meeting one of the decisions made was Raza taking over the T20I captaincy. The Zimbabwe Cricket took to X to announce this decision in a post which read “All-rounder Sikandar Raza has been named as Captain of Zimbabwe’s T20 international team in one of the changes announced by the Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) Board after its meeting held in Victoria Falls on Saturday.”
The 37-year-old cricketer has featured in 71 T20Is having scored 1436 runs at the average of 22.43, with his highest score being 87. In these 71 matches, Raza has taken 42 wickets with his Best Bowling in Innings (BBI) of 4/8. The Pakistan born cricketer also boasts a feat of being the eighth player to score most runs in a calendar year (735) in T20Is.
