Kolkata Knight Riders had a tough IPL 2023 season as they were in contention for the playoffs till the last game but couldn’t make it. Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana came up with a heartwarming gesture as he gifted LSG mentor and former KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir a jersey after a one run loss against LSG.
Rana gave a special purple and gold KKR jersey which had ‘GG’ on the back with the number 23. Gautam Gambhir appreciated this gesture as he tweeted the photo with Nitish Rana and captioned it, “So proud of u Nitish. Always wear the jersey with pride!”
Rana replied to the tweet with respect and admiration for the former India opener as he tweeted, “Thank you @GautamGambhir bhaiya. You and this jersey has taught me a lot over the years and I am forever grateful for that.”
It is to be noted that Nitish Rana looks upto Gautam Gambhir as one of the old pictures of Rana and Gambhir went viral a few days ago. The two have never played together for KKR but have played some domestic games together.
Gautam Gambhir was the captain who brought KKR all their glory so far as he led them to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014. The LSG mentor is immensely respected within the KKR fanbase as some of the “Bring Back GG to KKR” posters were also seen at their last league game against LSG. KKR lost their last league game against Lucknow by one run and finished the season in seventh place with 12 points while LSG have successfully qualified for the playoffs and will face Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 on Wednesday.
