On Sunday, April 6, Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by a convincing margin of seven wickets in the 19th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. With the comprehensive win, the Shubman Gill-led side not only bettered their head-to-head record against the Orange Army but also registered their fourth successive win at the Hyderabad venue in the cash rich league.
For the unversed, Shubman Gill, the captain of GT had won the toss and decided to field first. Thus putting the hosts to post the score first on the board, Mohammed Siraj sent opener Travis Head back to the pavilion in the first over itself. After Head’s departure, Siraj then dismissed Abhishek Sharma after he added 18 runs during his 16-ball stay in the middle. After quick wickets, Ishan Kishan was removed by Prasidh Krishna and GT were looking good with three key wickets coming inside the first 10 overs.
However, at one point of time, Nitish Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen looked good, but were dismissed at the scores of 31 and 27 respectively. Apart from them, skipper Pat Cummins did look good, playing a nine-ball 22, but Siraj was the wrecker-in-chief, picking up four wickets, whereas Prasidh Krishna and Sai Kishore also bagged two wickets each.
GT replaces RCB at second place; SRH continue to struggle at bottom of points table
In pursuit of the 153-run target, Sai Sudharsan, who has so far looked good, departed having scored only five runs off nine deliveries. While the skipper, Shubman Gill was joined by Jos Buttler in the middle, but the latter also departed without even opening his account. With the GT looking in a state of worry, Washington Sundar joined Gill as the duo added crucial runs on the board.
However, Mohammed Shami dismissed Sundar at 49, courtesy an easy catch by Aniket Verma, GT called in for Sherfane Rutherford, impacting Ishant Sharma and the duo easily helped GT finish on the other side of the line with 20 balls to spare. With this convincing win, GT displaced RCB in the points table whereas SRH’s campaign was put in a state of worry with the Hyderabad-based franchise registering their fourth straight defeat in the tournament.
