On Saturday, April 12, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) earned a comfortable eight-wicket win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Coming into this fixture on the back of four straight defeats in the season after winning their opening clash against the Rajasthan Royals, SRH finally triumphed over a strong looking Punjab side with nine balls to spare.

For the unversed, Shreyas Iyer, the captain of PBKS, won the toss and decided to bat first. With a brisk start from their opening pair of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, PBKS added 66 runs before the former was dismissed having scored 36 off 13 balls. With Shreyas Iyer in the middle as a new batter, the duo then stitched a crucial stand before Eshan Malinga removed Prabhsimran Singh. Thereafter, none of the batters could much make an impact with Nehal Wadhera adding 27 runs whereas Marcus Stoinis played a 11-ball 34* to put up 245 runs on the board.

For the hosts, Harshal Patel was the wrecker-in-chief, picking four wickets, Eshan Malinga got two in his bag whereas others struggled with the ball. Mohammed Shami also struggled as he bowled the second most expensive spell in IPL 2025 after Jofra Archer.
