Ahead of the SunRisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) IPL 2024 clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, the Pat Cummins-led side have been handed a massive blow with their star signing and off-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga missing another week of the tournament with injury.
Unavailability for a week adds to the worries of SRH as the Sri Lanka spinner is reportedly looking to consult overseas about chronic pain in his left heel. As reported by ESPNcricinfo, Hasaranga was assessed by Sri Lanka Cricket’s medical team and they have suspected that the pain is down to the musculo-skeletal apparatus in his left heel having become worn.
Furthermore, he has been advised to get a medical opinion to understand the nature of the injury and how to manage it with a tough roster ahead. Seeing this, there continues to be delay in Hasaranga delaying his debut for SRH after being bought for INR 1.5 Crore in the IPL 2024 mini-auction.
Speaking of Hasaranga’s performance in the IPL 2023, he was the star performer for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru), finishing with 26 wickets at an economy of 7.54.
