Rins suffered a double fracture of his right tibia and fibula in a crash during the Italian MotoGP at Mugello in June. He underwent two surgeries and has now missed quite a lot of races.

Bradl, who raced for LCR Honda from 2012 to 2014, has been filling in for various Honda riders. He replaced Marc Márquez at the Dutch MotoGP, Pol Espargaró at the Czech MotoGP in 2020, and Joan Mir at the American MotoGP. He also made a wildcard appearance at the Austrian MotoGP.

LCR Honda is currently ninth in the teams’ standings with 85 points. Rins is 15th in the riders’ championship with 47 points. Bradl has scored 5 points so far.

The Grand Prix of India will take place at the Buddh International Circuit from September 22 to 24, while the Grand Prix of Japan will be held at the Twin Ring Motegi from September 29 to October 1.
