Khabib Nurmagomedov's coach Javier Mendez denied reports of the legend returning in the forthcoming UFC 300. Mebdez confirmed that the UFC 254 title defence bout was his last fight and he is not planning any return to the UFC arena. While the UFC 300 has names including Sean O'Malley, Alexander Volkanovski, and Sean Strickland on cards, the names for the main event are yet to be announced. In the last few days, several rumours about Nurmagomedov’s possible return to the UFC have resurfaced, but Mendez smashed all the reports.
In a video posted on social media, the American Kickboxing Academy head coach smashed all the speculations about Khabib’s return, who retired in Jan. 2021 after a 29-0 (13-0 UFC) run. Mendez clarified the reason for Nurmagomedov's visit to him and spoke on his latest training videos. In the video, Mendez said, "I'm just letting you guys know that, you know, stop all this nonsense regarding Khabib coming back and me and him training.”
He added, “There's been no such thing happening. We're not discussing training, we never have. Khabib is still devoted to what he said. He's devoting his time to his family, he's not working people's corners, he's not going to ever fight. To my knowledge, it's never been spoken about. And to my knowledge, he's been here the past few days. He just left yesterday from Dubai."
Talking about the UFC 300 event, it is slated to be hosted on April 13, 2024. The event will take place eight years after the UFC 200 event. The UFC 300 will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., as its final lineup is starting to come together. Nurmagomedov announced his retirement in 2021 following the passing of his father, by announcing that he decided to devote the rest of his time to his mother and family.
