KL Rahul’s form has been the talk of the town for quite some time now. His slump with the bat has not just cost him a vice-captaincy spot in Test cricket but he was also dropped from the 3rd Test against Australia. While his appearance in the 4th Test is pretty unlikely, the top-order batter appeared for his Indian Premier League franchise Lucknow Super Giants on Monday for the jersey launch.

The franchise unveiled its new jersey for the fresh season of the Indian Premier League, and captain KL Rahul and team mentor Gautam Gambhir talked to the media. In one of the questions pointing out the importance of strike rate in the T20 format of the game, Rahul said that he believes the strike rate is quite over-rated and the rate of scoring runs must depend on the situation.

“I think the strike rate is over-rated. But it depends upon the demand, if you chase 140 – you don’t need to go with a 200 strike rate. It depends upon the current situation,” Rahul said. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants’ mentor Gautam Gambhir too backed his captain and said that it's important to make an impact in the game, rather than just hitting the ball out of the park.

Commenting on KL Rahul, Gambhir said that the franchise is quite fortunate to have such a cool-headed skipper in the team and bestowed his trust in the skipper for the upcoming season. KL Rahul has quite an impressive number in the IPL as the batter has amassed 3889 runs at an average of 48.01 and a strike rate of 136.22, in 109 matches.
