Australian Open on Friday, December 6 unveiled the list of players who will feature in the main draw of the tournament, set to be played from January 6 to 26 in Melbourne. The organisers released the list which included top 50 ATP and WTA ranked players, who will be appearing in the first Grand Slam of the 2025 season.

However, the main draw will begin from January 12, India’s top-ranked tennis player Sumit Nagal has also been given a direct entry in the men’s singles main draw. While it will be Nagal’s fifth Grand Slam appearance, he appeared in four Grand Slams in 2024 along with reaching his career-best ATP singles rankings of 68 this year.

Sumit Nagal gets direct entry in AO 2025 main draw; Nick Krygios returns

Nagal, who is currently ranked World No. 98, will be joined by the likes of Novak Djokovic along with other top-ranked players. It is to be noted that Nagal famously defeated 31st seeded Alexander Bublik in straight sets to register his first win at the AO first round in the 2024 edition.

Along with the likes Novak Djokovic, fan favourite Nick Krygios is set to return to action after missing the last two seasons due to various knee injuries. The 2022 Wimbledon finalist has been given a direct entry under Protected Rankings. Reigning World No. 1 and defending champion Jannik Sinner will enter as top-seeded, along with Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz. In women’s singles, defending champion Aryna Sabalenka, along with Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff have been named in the main draw.
