India put up a dominating performance in front of Pakistan, winning their first Super 4s match by 228 runs at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. After rain had washed out the scheduled day for the match (Sunday, 10 th September), KL Rahul and Virat Kohli stitched an unbeaten 233-run partnership to help India post 356/2 in the 50 overs.

KL Rahul, who made a return into the side after being ruled out for more than five months, made his comeback a rememberable one. The 31-year-old scored an unbeaten 111 off 106 deliveries to register the highest partnership in Asia Cup with Virat Kohli. This comeback of the wicketkeeper-batter helped him earn accolades from all around but a special one from his wife, Bollywood actor Athiya Shetty.
The couple who tied a knot earlier this year, was back in news. Athiya took to social media to acknowledge KL’s performance in the much-hyped match against arch-rivals Pakistan. “Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise. You are everything, I love you”, she captioned the post.
However, the day saw not only Virat and KL star for the side, but the Indian bowlers also put up a great performance with Kuldeep Yadav registering one of his best spells and finishing with 5/25 in the eight overs.
While the Men in Blue will next play Sri Lanka in their second Super 4s match in Colombo on Tuesday, 12 th September, Pakistan will take on the Dasun Shanaka-led side in their last Super 4s fixture at the same venue on Thursday, 14 th September.
