After this shocking turn of events, Sunil Gavaskar won't be commentating on the Test in Visakhapatnam and has left for Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh where the batting legend's wife Marshneil Gasvaskar's family is based. Pushpa Mehrotra was married to BL Mehrotra, a well-known leather industrialist in Kanpur.
Sunil Gavaskar married Pushpa Mehrotra's daughter Marshneil in 1974. The pair met for the first time in 1973 when Marshneil once went to take Sunil Gavaskar’s autograph at a cricket match. It is said that with the autograph, Sunil also gave his heart to Marshneil and they tied the knot the next year.
Pushpa Mehrotra shared a special relationship with Sunil Gavaskar's son Rohan Gavaskar. The late Pushpa Mehrotra , in a 2004 interview, expressed pride and elation when Rohan made his international debut for India against Australia.
Speaking to TOI, Sunil Gavaskar's mother-in-law said, "I had been waiting for this day. I always knew Rohan deserved to don the national colours. It was good seeing him take two quick and intelligent singles. It was amazing to see him take that spectacular catch. Of course, on Tuesday he got out early, but he did score 22 runs in as many balls and the only six of the match."
