World's top-ranked T20I batter, Suryakumar Yadav, has undergone sports hernia surgery, which worsened with time. SKY led Team India in the T20I series against Australia (home) and South Africa (away) before being unavailable for the three T20Is against Afghanistan that the Men in Blue won 3-0.

An expert in Munich operated on Yadav on Wednesday as the Mumbai Indians batter had a similar operation that KL Rahul underwent in 2022. A procedure similar to this demands at least four to five weeks for recovery but in Surya's case, it could take longer. This sports hernia operation comes alongside an ankle injury the Mumbai native suffered in the series against the Proteas.
Sharing about his injury, Suryakumar Yadav posted a picture on social media and assured fans that he will be back soon. SKY's tweet said, "I want to thank everyone for their concerns and well wishes for my health, and I am happy to tell you all that I will be back very soon."

As per Cricbuzz, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expects Suryakumar Yadav to be back by the Indian Premier League 2024 season and believes that he will be fully fit for the T20 World Cup in June. The report also claimed that SKY could take a longer time to recover despite sports hernia not being considered serious.
