Suzie Bates, the former captain of New Zealand, became the world record holder for most appearances in women’s international matches during the final of the T20 World Cup 2024 against South Africa. The 37-year-old, who is currently playing her 334th international match in women’s cricket, surpassed former India captain Mithali Raj to achieve the incredible milestone, and she will be looking to cap it off with a World Cup triumph later tonight.
For the unversed, Suzie Bates made her international debut as an 18-year-old in New Zealand colours on March 4, 2006, in an ODI match against India in Lincoln. Her debut in the T20I format came a year later against South Africa in Taunton, against whom she is currently playing the final of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 final, which is widely expected to be her last match in international cricket irrespective of the result.
Suzie Bates is yet to play a Test match for the White Ferns in her international career
Although it is a pity that Suzie Bates is yet to play a Test match for the White Ferns in her international career, still, her impact on the women’s cricket has been second to none. Her 163 ODI and 171 T20I appearances for New Zealand at the international level have coincided with some of the best moments in the sport for her team and the world of women’s cricket as well.
List of players with most matches in women’s internationals:
