Indian batter Shubman Gill and pacer Avesh Khan will reportedly return home after India’s game against Canada. The two sides will square off in the T20 World Cup 2024 on June 15 in Fort Lauderdale. While Gill and Khan travelled with the team to Florida, they won’t be joining the rest of the squad for the Super 8 fixtures and will return homeland after the game. Notably, Gill, Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, and Rinku Singh were named Indian travelling reserves for the ICC global spectacle.

According to Cricbuzz, the Men in Blue travelled to Miami by a charted flight on Wednesday, June 12. The charter was organised for the USA and India teams after their game at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York on Wednesday. It has been reported that Gill and Khan were to be with the side only for the US leg in case of unexpected injuries to the players.

Gill and Khan could be asked to stay back in case a regular player gets injured during the scheduled practice session on June 14, or during the game on Saturday, June 15. However, it is unlikely to happen as the inclement weather in Florida could disturb the schedule. In addition to this, the squad has an additional opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and the spinner may not be needed as the side is likely to utilise spinners in the West Indies leg.

Talking about the other two reserves, Rinku and Khaleel are likely to stay with the team and travel to Barbados where the 2007 winners will play their first Super 8 game on June 20. Following the fixtures, they will play their remaining two games on June 22 and June 24 in Antigua and St. Lucia, respectively. The semifinals, subject to India's qualification, will be played in Georgetown, Guyana on June 27 while the final will be in Bridgetown on June 29.
