In a big update, it is being reported that the next T20 World Cup which is set to be played in the USA and West Indies will take place from June 4-30. However, no such update has been confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC), but as per reports surfaces citing ESPNcricinfo, the tournament will be played in June 2024.

 

The report further adds that an ICC delegation visited five of USA’s shortlisted venues and will be hosting the global event for the first time. The five venues shortlisted by the boards include Morrisville, Dallas and New York along with Lauderhill in Florida.

 

It is to be noted that the two venues from the shortlisted list - Morrisville and Dallas are currently hosting the inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket (MLC). However, the venues have been shortlisted to host the marquee event, they haven’t been granted the status of international venue, which a mandatory rule under the ICC regulations for hosting a global event.

 

The decision on the venues and dates of the T20 World Cup 2024 is likely to come in the coming months.

 

What is new in T20 World Cup 2024?

 

The next edition of the T20 World Cup, which is scheduled take place in the USA and West Indies will follow a new format. 20 teams are set to be part of the first round which will be further divided into four groups consisting of five teams each. So far, the first round consisted of only the Super 12s. The top two teams from each group will move further in the Super 8s, divided into two groups of four teams each. Top two teams from each groups will further play the semifinals with the winners playing the final.
