Tabraiz Shamsi, the South African cricketer, has opted out of the CSA national contract, effective immediately, in an announcement on Thursday, November 3. The 34-year-old, who has been a part of 51 ODIs and 70 T20Is for South Africa thus far, will always be available to play for his country in both white-ball formats whenever needed, despite his stance to explore all opportunities available and look after his family in the best way possible while being more flexible with his schedule in the domestic season.
In the joint statement with Cricket South Africa (CSA), which was posted on social media platform X, the governing body of cricket in the rainbow nation remarked that they respect his decision and remain confident in his continued dedication to South African cricket. The CSA also looked forward to him contributing to the Proteas and Titans in the future matches for years to come.
I have decided to opt out of my central contract in order to be more flexible during the domestic season: Tabraiz Shamsi
The South African left-arm wrist spinner commented on how his decision to opt out of the CSA national contract will not hamper his ability to represent South Africa in the sport. He was quoted as saying, “I have decided to opt out of my central contract in order to be more flexible during the domestic season, allowing me to explore all opportunities available and look after my family in the best way possible.”
Tabraiz Shamsi also spoke about his dream to bring the World Cup to South Africa after losing the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024 final against India in the Caribbean earlier in the year. He remarked, “This will not impact my ability or motivation to play for the Proteas in any way and I will always be available to play for my country whenever I am needed. It has always been my dream to bring the World Cup home to South Africa, and no franchise league will ever be more important than playing for my country.”
“The Titans are also fully supportive of my decision, and I will be a part of the Titans squad whenever I am available,” Tabraiz Shamsi further added.
