On Sunday, August 4, Novak Djokovic defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s singles gold medal match at the Paris Olympics 2024 to complete a Golden Slam at the Roland Garros. The 37-year-old claimed his first ever Olympic gold after winning his first Olympics medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

After his title triumph, emotions ran wild at Roland Garros with the Serbian breaking down in tears. Moreover, the 37-year-old ran towards the stands and went up to hug his daughter, Tara after his win over Carlos Alcaraz in the finale. He even was surrounded by his family members, which included his wife, son, who were present at the stadium to watch this sporting spectacle.

Rafael Nadal congratulates Djokovic after latter completes Golden Slam

Djokovic, who won his maiden Olympic gold, won the game in straight sets 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2) and joined Rafael Nadal in the list of players to register Golden Slams. Taking to X, Rafael Nadal however, wrote a special message for his countryman, he even congratulated Novak and welcomed him in the elite list.

In a special congratulatory message for Djokovic, Nadal took to Instagram and wrote, “Congrats Novak on completing the (Career) Golden Slam and being able to achieve what you wanted. Well done.” With this win, Djokovic joined the elite list which includes Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal, Steffi Graf and Serena Williams as the only players to win all four Grand Slam tournaments and Olympic singles gold.
