The Central Investigation Bureau warned Liverpool fans in Thailand regarding a fake Xabi Alonso, who has been scamming people by asking for donations. The former Spanish international has emerged as one of the best upcoming managers in world football.

Managing in the Bundesliga, Xabi Alonso has led Bayer Leverkusen to an unbeaten season so far and overtook Bayern Munich at the top of the German league. Hence after current Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp announced his exit from the club at the end of the 2023-24 season, speculation about the former Reds midfielder returning to Merseyside surfaced.
I am short of money: fake Xabi Alonso to Thai Liverpool fans
Amidst these rumours and reports, Thailand's CIB warned local Liverpool fans about an online scam where a fake Xabi Alonso via his Instagram account states that he would be taking over from Klopp as Liverpool coach but needs donations of 300 baht ($8.50) to help pay for a plane ticket to the English city.
The message states, "I am Xabi Alonso, I will be in charge of Liverpool next season but I am short of money for my flights to Liverpool," (translated from Thai) as per DW.

The police statement posted on Facebook said, “Liverpool fans, calm down. Xabi is not yet the manager, but there is already a scammer,” The CIB further expressed that the doctored message was made to look to come from Alonso’s official Instagram account – was “a scammer pretending to be Xabi”.
