Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo shared an emotional Instagram post after his former teammate Pepe announced his retirement from professional football. The 41-year-old played his last game at Euro 2024, where Portugal were defeated by France on penalties in the quarterfinals. Not only this, but the tournament also saw him becoming the oldest player to appear at a European Championship finals tournament.
During his glorious career, Pepe won a total of 34 trophies. In addition to the rare feat he achieved at the Euro 2024, Pepe has also taken the title of the oldest outfielder and oldest goal-scorer in the Champions League during 2023-24. He was the first outfield player over 40 to play in the knockout stages of the tournament when Porto clashed against Arsenal earlier this year.
Cristiano Ronaldo shares emotional post for former teammate Pepe
Al-Nassr football icon Ronaldo shared an emotional post on Instagram as his former teammate announced his decision of retiring from the sport. Ronaldo took to Instagram and wrote that while they both have won everything on the field, his greatest achievement is the friendship and respect he carries for Pepe.
Ronaldo posted, "We won everything there was to win on the field, but the greatest achievement is the friendship and respect I have for you. You are unique, my brother. Thank you for so much." Notably, Pepe spent 10 seasons at Real Madrid, eight of which came alongside Ronaldo where he won three LaLiga titles, three Champions League titles and two FIFA Club World Cup.
